Yes - I know! This is a crazy little hat! But it’s my answer to sustainable knitting! I found lots of scraps and bits of wool in my stash and wanted to make a hat! And I couldn’t wait to get started as it was going to be a really fun project! I wanted to make stripes, but not in the traditional way. And I wanted to use bold colors to get the photos right. I am really happy about the wave-pattern and how it turned out. And while knitting it I realized how nice this hat would be in more subtle tones or even in a singel color.
It’s up to you to play and find your favourite color(s) that match your coat or your personality.
The knitting-part is easy. The hat is worked bottom-up on circular needles in a pattern-repeat of 20st and 10 rows. Nothing difficult at all - and with the “new” stiches to form the texture of the waves it is great fun!
The size is a one-size that would suit a circumference between 20 - 23 inches. You could modify by going up or down a needle-size. I used “Felted Tweed” by Rowan as a base, and added splashes of pure alpaca to the waves - some from Blue Sky Alpaca, some from Sandnes and Drops. You could really use any wool, as long as you stay with the gauge.
