Thrummed mittens are a staple in Newfoundland knitting. In the thrumming technique, scraps of unspun wool roving are knit into the fabric to create a soft and fuzzy lining, with little puffs of fuzz showing on the outside, shaped like little hearts. While these are super cute, they also serve the important purpose of keeping little fingers warm during cold, damp winters.

MATERIALS
Approximately 55 (61, 67, 74, 81, 89) yds / 50 (56, 61, 68, 74, 81) m of bulky-weight yarn, 16 (18, 20, 22, 25, 28) g of wool roving. Sample shown in Cascade Eco col. 3103 “Legion Blue,” 478 yds / 437 m per 250 g skein; thrums made with Fleece Artist Merino, 50 g per hank.
