20 pages crochet fly pattern includes detailed instructions with plenty of photo references to instruct you on how to crochet toy.

This pattern is suitable for those with beginner crochet skills and have knowledge of magic ring/circle, crocheting in spirals, chain, single crochet, double crochet, single crochet increase and invisible decrease, basic sewing and embroidery techniques.

Materials and tools

  1. Yarn for crocheting and crochet hooks:
  • main yarn - cotton, wool, mohair - of your choice. The yarn should be thin enough to maintain the fly’s brooch size.
  • additionally, use the bobbin thread of the color you have chosen (create a melange of two threads, the main and the additional bobbin thread). I crocheted one of the flies from woolen yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook without additional bobbin thread, the rest - from the yarn with length of 500-600m in 100gr + bobbin thread crocheted with 0.75 mm crochet hook (my crochet hook is quite plump, crocheting with it is similar to crocheting with 0.9 mm hook) .
  • thin cotton yarn - for the eyeballs. Choose the color at your discretion. For this yarn you can use a crochet hook from 0.75 to 1 mm.
  • yarn of your chosen color for the wings, legs and antennae (I suggest making it in one color).
  1. A needle for assembling with an eye through which the crocheting thread passes.
  2. Two small black beads for the pupils of the eyes, a needle with a thin eye, fishing line or monofilament for sewing on beads and eyeballs. You will also need two sewing pins for eye setting.
  3. Wire for the frame (I use galvanized steel wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm) and a thin bead wire that you will insert while crocheting the rows of the wings, a tool for working with the wire.
  4. Toy stuffing (fiber filler).
  5. Polyurethane based glue or similar for gluing the frame of the wings and winding the frame with yarn (if you choose the option of a fly with a winding).
  6. Materials for tinting. For cotton yarn, acrylic paint or colored pencils are suitable; for fluffy, textured yarn or wool, you can take, for example, dry pastels. Tinting brushes.
  7. Acrylic varnish for fixing the shape of the legs and antennae and fixing the tinting (prepare a solution of varnish (or PVA glue) with water in a ratio approx. 1 to 4-6).
  8. Sew-on narrow clasp for small size brooches.
