Flyaway Cardi
This sweater is meant to fly about in the wind. It is gathered in a diagonal line around the waist and is a very loose gauge. The sizing is loose because it is nice with quite a bit of negative ease, or you may want the front to overlap. The sizes are: 24 – 32 (28 – 36, 32 – 40, 36 – 44, 40 – 48, 44 – 52) inch bust.
The approximate yardage for each size is: 500 (580, 660, 740, 820, 900). This sweater is fairly short, many knitters will want to lengthen it, so you may want an extra 100-200 yds.
It is knit from the bottom up, knitting back and forth. The sleeves are knit in the round up to the underarm, and then they join the body and both are knit flat up to the neck with the raglan shaping.
The instructions are written out line by line. In order to neatly fit the high underarms in every size and the different length of the diagonal “seam”, each size of this cardigan is written out on its own. I consider it a treat to knit with only the numbers for my size sitting there. Because of this, the whole pattern is pretty long, but you will only need a couple pages.
this pattern is also available on Knit Picks.
