Flying Geese Mittens
These mittens will fly off your needles with their easy-to-memorize repeat!
The Flying Geese Mittens are designed and knit following the Selbu mitten construction tradition, using charted designs from Janetta Dexter’s “Traditional Nova Scotian Double-Knitting Patterns (1985: Halifax, Nova Scotia Museum). Suitable for the knitter with some experience.
Size:
Adult S-M: length 27cm/10.5”, outer circumference 21.5cm/8.5”.
Adjust size by adjusting gauge.
Yarn:
Heavy fingering/light sport weight wool recommended. Samples shown:
Red and White - Tukuwool Sock
Black and Peacock – Briggs and Little Sport
50g each of two contrasting colours, pattern colour (PC) and background colour (BC).
Tools:
Tukuwool Sock sample knit on 2.5mm needles.
B&L Sport sample knit on 2.75mm needles.
Swatch and use needles that give the correct gauge for the size needed. Use preferred type for small-circumference knitting (dpns, 2 circs, long circ).
