Notes From the Designer:
A fogbow is a rare and beautiful, naturally occurring phenomenon. It is essentially a rainbow that occurs in the fog, as opposed to the rain, and with far more muted coloring, if any. A fogbow is also known as a white rainbow. The misty fogbow with its nebulous edges are represented in the Sugar Fluff Fingering yarn. With its airy, halo-like texture that’s knit into rings and grounded by a lacy, silken texture base, you will create a gorgeous, soft, and cloud-like cowl to wrap yourself in. Let this project remind you to take a moment to appreciate the beautiful, hidden gems created by nature.
- Click here to watch a video tutorial on how to knit this cowl, including how to work the provisional cast on, knit the rounds, and work the Kitchener stitch.
- The sample shown used approximately 1516 yd/1386 m total: Yarn A) 909 yd/831 m and Yarn B) 607 yd/555 m.
- If you obtain gauge, you will have enough yarn to knit the gauge swatch and your entire project without undoing your gauge swatch. However, you will use almost all of the skeins of yarn for each color. To ensure you have enough yarn to complete your project, it is important to obtain gauge. If you wish to make the cowl narrower or wider, you can add or subtract multiples of 18.
- If using hand-dyed yarn, it is recommended to alternate skeins to avoid noticeable demarcation lines in your project.
- Stitch markers are used as a visual reference in this pattern. As the wave pattern is in a repeat of 18 sts, this will help you ensure you are completing the repeats correctly. This will also make it easier to spot and fix any errors before you get too far. If you leave stitch markers in throughout the entire project, you will slip all markers as you come to them.
- Make sure to carry your yarn loosely up the inside of your project to avoid puckering.
- Don’t worry about any gap that may occur when you join to knit in the round. You will take care of that in the finishing steps of this project.
