Fogtown Mittens use a sport-weight wool yarn in 2 or more colors. Long interval self-striping yarns work very well in this design. While 2 colors is a minimum, you can use more than 1 main color and/or contrast color as long as there is sufficient contrast.
This pattern is written in one size, but additional sizes can be made by changing needle sizes and/or yarn weights, thereby knitting at a tighter or looser gauge.
This mitten design features a cozy lined cuff which has 2 options for the colorwork pattern on the outer cuff. There are also 2 different sets of instructions for turning the cuff; one possibility is a straight purl ridge turning line, the other is for a lacy picot edge (as seen on the sample photo). The thumb includes a gusset, and the top shaping is wedge-shaped. This pattern is one of 5 in the Fogtown Set: Hat, Mittens, Mitts, Socks and Cowl.
