Folk Bag
A folk bag is a drawstring pouch that combines crocheting, knitting, and fabric.
The folk bag is a perfect project if you want to:
-
Create a gift bag that you can either keep, give or sell. Fill the bag with goodies or a friendly message and there’s no person who wouldn’t love receiving it!
-
Use your stash: both yarn and fabric! This is a dream project for leftovers - a small but purposeful item.
-
Make multiple items from the same pattern. Creating variations of these bags is addicting!
-
Improve your design skills. You will match yarns, fabrics, and embellishments with increasing creativity! Design progresses gradually with the making.
-
Experiment with your ideas and creative expression. What story your bag is telling and what can you add to make it special to its owner?
In the workbook, you will get:
- detailed instructions for three different folk bags
- guidance on how to make your own unique bags
You will learn how to choose materials, what design decisions to make in each phase, and examples of how the ideas have been applied to various kinds of folk bags. You can either keep, give or sell all the bags you will make by using the workbook.
Your folk bag is today’s folk art. Folk Bag Workbook continues the long tradition of folk art: telling stories, embracing color, and making the most of what you have.
--- History of The Pattern
The concept of the folk bag was invented in 2008 by Paivi Eerola from Peony and Parakeet. Paivi has sold these bags in her Etsy shop.
The instructional e-book “Folk Bag Workbook” about designing and making the folk bags was published in English in December 2014, and in Finnish in January 2015. Minor errors have been corrected in December 2017.
The Dutch version was published in 2018 but unfortunately, it’s no longer available because the translator closed her business and the agreement ended.
