Follow The Ferry
The Follow The Ferry Shawl is inspired by the many beautiful seabirds of the Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, USA, especially those which appear to follow the ferries! The shawl’s asymmetric shape is inspired by the seabirds gliding and turning in mid-air above the ferry deck.
The stitch pattern is knitted with v-shaped diagonal lines of yarn-overs, representing the birds in flight. Each individual flying bird motif combines with the next to form a whole flock by the end of the shawl. Combining double and single yarn-overs with garter stitch texture creates a lightweight knitted fabric with great structure.
This shawl can be knitted with just one ball or skein of yarn (approximately 400m/100g) making it an ideal travel project or gift for a special person.
The shawl featured in the pattern is knitted with 3.5mm needles in Lockwood Fibres Merino Sock 4ply Yarn (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon, 425m/465yd per 100g skein)
Shade Sea Foam; 1 × 100g skein
