I started this shawl pattern because I loved the “Footprints in the Sand” Poem and had some beautifully soft, tan yarn. But halfway through the making, it gained a new purpose.
Through my mom, I met a young man named Shadrack Morgan. He’s an extremely impoverished young man living in Africa, trying to support two sisters and an aunt after most of his family were killed by cattle rustlers and disease. When my family first heard his story, he had nothing but a great faith in God and enough speed to put him on the racing level with Olympic runners.
In the months since, he’s lost yet another family member to lack of medical care, but also had his first birthday cake and sent his sisters back to school. My mom is in constant contact with him, giving encouragement and being amazed by his faith and gratitude. He calls my four-year-old daughter his “BFF” and loves to hear about her exploits. I wanted to send him something I made, but was told a package was too expensive. So instead, I’m making a promise.
If you buy this pattern, I promise to set aside half the proceeds for this young man, whose motto is “Don’t worry, God will bring.” Help me to be the hand that fulfills that faith.
