FOR THE LOVE OF CATS HAT (Dutch below)

To my favourite knitting buddies, Guusje and Simba. When I look on Facebook at pictures from people knitting there almost always a dog or cat present, either lying next to or on the knitwork. My two cats are my favourite knitting buddies. I have had cats in my home for 20 years now and no animal group is so alike in their postures and behaviour as cats, big or small. When you see a tiger on the tv or in the zoo licking its paws, you see the cute behaviour of your own house tiger.
But when she brings a mouse into the house, not yet dead, you see the wild predator, that you forget about when she’s purring in your lap. I always try to get the silhouettes I use in my knitting as close to reality as posible. This shape of the hat with silhouettes of cats is based on the pattern for the traditional Fair Isle Fischermen’s hat except for the double rim that is replaced bij corrugated ribbing.

The pattern includes a chart and full detailed written instructions.

Size adult unisex.

NECESSITIES:
Approximately 100 grams of wool for knitting needle 3.0 mm. Minimal divided into 2 colours.
I used 100 grams of Baa ram ewe Pip wool divided in 3 colours:

50 grams of Crucible (Light grey)
25 grams of Coal (Anthracite grey)
25 grams Viking (Orange).

Any Shetland or other fingering or sports weight yarn is good for this as long as it has a high wool content and needle thickness 2.75 – 3,5 mm. It is also possible to use scraps of wool, the hat itself weighs about 80 grams.

Gauge: About 28 stitches and 34 rows are 10 x 10 cms

For the love of Cats muts

Voor mij favoriete breimaatjes Guusje en Simba. Als ik naar plaatjes op Facebook kijk met breiende mensen dat zit er meestal een kat of hond in de buurt, die of naast of op het breiwerk ligt. Mijn katten zijn mijn favoriete breimaatjes. Ik heb al bijna 20 jaar katten in huis. Ik ken geen diergroep met zulk typisch gedrag, zulke typische houdingen. Als je op tv of in de dierentuin een tijger zijn pootjes ziet aflikken zie je meteen daarin het vertederende gedrag van je eigen huistijger. Maar als ze met een muis naar binnen komen, die vaak net niet dood is, zie je ook even weer het wilde roofdier, wat je even vergeet als zij op schoot ligt te spinnen. Ik probeer altijd de silhouetten in mijn werk zo dicht mogelijk bij de realiteit te krijgen als mogelijk. De vorm van de muts is gebaseerd op de traditionele Fair Isle Fischermen’s muts, behalve de dubbele boord deze is hier vervangen door twee kleuren ribbelsteek.

Dit patroon bestaat uit een teltekening en een gedetailleerde uitgeschreven instructie.

BENODIGDHEDEN:

Minimaal 100 gram wol voor breinaald 3,0 mm. Minimaal verdeeld in 2 kleuren.

Elk soort Shetland of fingering of sport weight garen is prima, maar het moet wel een hoog percentage wol bevatten en voor dikte breinaald 2.75 tot 3,5 mm zijn. Het kan ook zeker met restjes want de muts zelf weegt ongeveer 80 gram.

Proeflapje 28 steken x 34 rijen is ongeveer 10 x 10 cm.
