A 3-color garter stitch and lace collared circular shawl with NO purl stitches!
THE STORY
Using the same combination of garter and lace as my other triangular shaped ‘For the Love of Garter’ shawls, the 5 panels that make up the shape of this shawl allows it to be thrown around your neck like a little cape-let to keep your neck and shoulders warm!
MATERIALS
- Tôt le Matin Yarns Tôt Sport (sport weight; 100% superwash merino wool; 328 yds/ 300 m per 3.5 oz / 100g), 3 skeins total: Color A - 1 skeins ‘Champagne’; Color B - 1 skein ‘Aurus’; Color C - 1 skein ‘Rouille’
- US 6 (4 mm) 32 - 60” / 80 cm to 152 cm circular needles (see Notes for recommended lengths)
- Crochet hook for provisional cast on (size G or similar)
- Smooth waste yarn for provisional cast on
- Locking/removable stitch marker (optional)
- Ring stitch markers (10)
- Row counter (optional, recommended)
- Tapestry needle
FINISHED SIZE
38” / 96.5 cm dia; 18¾” / 47.5 cm deep from the collar to the bind off edge
PROJECT GAUGE
24 sts and 42 rows = 4” over garter stitch worked flat, taken after blocking
NOTES
- This 5-panel semi-circular shawl is worked from the center collar, out. Stitches are provisionally cast on and the Left and Right “Shoulders” of the collar are worked. Then stitches are picked up along the edge of the Shoulder Sts and the shawl is worked outwards, flat.
- Written instructions are provided for the entirety of the shawl. Charted instructions are provided for most sections of the shawl, with the exception of the Shawl Body Setup. Charts begin on page 7.
- Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge.
- The length of cable on your circular needle can be adjusted as your shawl grows. I cast on and worked the Right and Left shoulders using a 32” / 80 cm needle. Once I completed Shawl Body Section 1, I changed to a 60” / 152 cm needle and was able to use that length for the remainder of the shawl. Use the length that feels most comfortable for the number of sts on your needle.
