The For the Love of Tetris Mittens are a great way to use up small amounts or even leftovers of DK yarn. The colourwork looks geometric in the chart but will result in an organic, wavy pattern in the finished product. If you are a colourwork beginner, you could knit these in only two colours (a solid colour and a variegated yarn, preferably a gradient). Experienced fair-isle knitters can challenge themselves and knit the mittens in three solid colours (If you opt to do just that you should be aware of the fact that there are several 3-colour rows where you will have to twist floats- but your mittens will be very warm).

As shown in one of the photos, if you don’t like working fair isle in small circumferences like the thumb, you can knit it in just one colour. And although the wavy fair isle pattern is written for both sides of each mitten, you could follow it only for the back of the hand and knit the palm in alternating colours to avoid long floats.

These mittens can be knit in DK or worsted weight yarn (100 metres of main colour, 60 metres of each contrasting colour). Differences in gauge will result in a tighter/looser fit of the finished product. You could also change needle sizes to make your yarn work.

The mittens have been test knitted. The pattern consists of two pages, the colourwork is charted and printable in b/w.
