Forbidden City Lace Shawl
Several years ago, I traveled to mainland China to visit with my best friend’s family. This shawl was inspired by some of our time sightseeing in Bejing—the Forbidden Palace, also known as the Forbidden City, was incredible in its complexity and full of stunning color and architecture.
Knit from the top down, this shawl increases at the edges before you knit the intricate border. Simple to knit, the border is a unique combination of Yo’s and strategically placed decreases that create slow curves and delicate points, and specific blocking instructions for the border are included!
An intermediate level knit, pattern is in written form.
Helpful hint-- as this shawl requires specific blocking, it is recommended that you use a wool, wool blend, or other natural fiber yarn when knitting this pattern.
Typo: “S3K2ogP” should read “S3K2P”. This is the centered quadrulpe decrease.
Also, Row 37 should end with K2.
A new, updated version of this pattern is available as of March 7,2010. If you purchased this pattern and would like to receive the updated copy, please email me at notwosnowflakes@aol.com
