Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop 2015
These fingerless mitts are a dream to knit in Hazel Knits Divine. Designed for 3 Kittens Needle Arts for the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop 2015, the inspiration for the mitts is the Gustav Klimt painting Forest of Beech Trees. Because of the vagaries of translating from German to English, some people call the painting Forest of Birch Trees (which according to a gardener friend is more accurate); hence, the name of the pattern.
The pattern begins with an easy rolled edge at the base of the cuff. Charted perpendicular lines of reverse stockinette mimic the birch or beech trees of the painting. The thumb gussets are off-set to more correctly fit the human hand.
While there is only one size option (women’s medium - approximately 7” circumference x 7” length), this is easily adaptable by switching needle sizes for a smaller or larger circumference - Divine can easily accommodate needles ranging from US 1-4 (2.25-3.5mm). The pattern also gives instructions to shorten or lengthen the mitt.
You will need approximately 200 yards of fingering weight yarn to complete a pair of mitts.
Errata (5/11/15): 2nd increase round (after Knit 5 rounds) should read k3, * k9, kfb * repeat from * to * until last 2 sts, k2 (60 sts)
