Forest Trail Mitts
This pattern reminds me of a meandering path through the roots and vine-y undergrowth of a forest in fall or winter…hence the name.
The main pattern is a 5 stitch repeat over 5 rounds. The stitch pattern uses a traveling series of yarn overs followed by either ssk or k2tog to get the meandering “cable” look without the cables.
The length can be increased or decreased as desired by adding or removing 5 round pattern repeats. The circumference can be adjusted for larger or smaller hands by increasing or decreasing the yarn weight and/or needle sizes or by adding/removing 5 stitches to the cast on.
It’s a very stretchy fabric, so exact gauge/sizing is not critical. Suggested gauge is in Stockinette stitch on larger (US 9/5.5 mm) needles using suggested yarn.
It is worked in the round, so you can use whatever small-circumference method you prefer: DPNs, two circular needles, or one long circular needle using Magic Loop.
