Forest Whispers
Forest Whispers is, in one word, cozy. The shawl has an undulating garter stitch edge at the top and the rest is a sea of small, easy cables. The shawl works up quicker than you’d think from worsted weight yarn and the size is easily adaptable. The resulting shawl is perfect for grounding forest walks.
Size:
One size, adjustable
Width: 67.25” / 171 cm.
Depth: 34.25” / 87 cm.
Materials:
Yarn: 3 skeins of Louhisaaren Lampaat (100% non-superwash wool, there is no yardage information given)
or approx. 600 yds / 550 m of worsted weight yarn, see notes for more information about yarn.
Needles: US 8 / 5 mm circular needles or size needed to get gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers.
The sample was knit using 3 skeins of Louhisaaren Lampaat in undyed grey yarn.
Gauge:
18 sts x 24 rows = 4” / 10 cm in cable pattern, after blocking.
Notes:
You can alter the size by working more or less repeats of the chart, just keep in mind that this affects the amount of yarn you need.
The yarn used in the sample is farm yarn, produced in small quantities and containing no information on yardage. Wraps per inch place the yarn at worsted weight (10 wraps per inch). Based on weight, this translates to approx. 600 yds / 550 m of worsted weight yarn. The pattern will work in a variety of weights from heavy DK to worsted to aran, and a variety of yardages (see above on altering the size). I highly recommend making a gauge swatch with the yarn you are thinking of using and seeing if you can get gauge similar to mine. If not, that is not a problem, just prepare with enough yarn. This makes this a great pattern to explore farm yarns or even your own handspun.
