Fossil Tides Shawl
’Tis the season for advents! I’m so excited to partner with Maggie of Yarnaceous Fibers for the 2024 Fossils by the Sea advent.
Be sure to check back here or on Instagram each day from December 1-25 for a photo of that day’s color worked into the cowl.
The Fossil Tides Shawl is worked in a fairly simple pattern that will keep you engaged. With the exception of Day 25, I was able to work up most of the days’ colors in less than an hour. Day 25 is a full 100g skein, so that will take a bit longer, but it’s easily completed over a couple days.
My goal when I design advent patterns is that they are interesting, but not overly complicated. December is always a busy time of year and crafting is meant to be a way to relax amidst all the chaos, so I want my advent patterns to bring a small pocket of peace to your days throughout the month. A short window of time each day to just enjoy the feel of the beautiful yarn through your hands as you work on this pattern. I hope you feel that as you work on this pattern.
If you are finding this pattern outside of purchasing the Yarnaceous Fibers 2024 Fossils by the Sea Advent, this is the PERFECT scrappy project. Grab your bits and bobs, your leftover advents from years past, or some full skeins to stripe together and choose your own adventure! For each of the daily 3-row color repeats all the way up to day 24, less than a 20g mini is used. I believe the most used in those first 24 days was around 15g. Day 25 used about 95g of the full 100g skein, but you could break that up into multiple colors to make it all scrappy. You can even do fewer rows of each color if you have less yarn. This is super customizable based on the yarn you have available to you.
