Taking their inspiration from the Fossilised Ferns mitts and scarf, these socks feature a textured stitch pattern reminiscent of fern fronds. They are worked toe-up with a flap and gusset heel and are written for four sizes, Small, Medium, Large and Extra-Large.

The texture is made using knits and purls and twisted stitches. You may wish to use a cable needle, but the twisted stitches are easy to work without one.

You will need:
up to 400yds (360m) fingering weight sock yarn
2mm (US 0) needles for knitting in the round, or size needed to achieve pattern tension.
Darning needle (for weaving in ends)
Cable needle (optional)

You need to be able to: work a provisional cast-on suitable for a toe-up sock, work in the round, work from a chart (the fern pattern is charted only), work common increases, decreases, and 1/1 cable stitches with or without a cable needle
