Fouetté Pullover
A delightful twist on a classic cabled cardigan, this is the sister to the Fouetté Cardigan. Same gorgeous cables and construction, but with a set-in sleeve, and a few extra details, like the simple lace panel at the center front and back. Knit mostly in the round, it’s a very fun and engaging knit, and results in a stunning pullover sure to gain many compliments.
Construction:
This saddle shoulder pullover is worked from the top down seamlessly. Once the saddles are worked stitches are picked up for the back, after which stitches are picked up to work the fronts. Both the back and fronts have short row shoulder shaping. All pieces are then joined in the round for the body. Stitches are picked up around the armhole, including the held saddle stitches. A short row sleeve cap is worked, and then the sleeve is worked in the round to the cuff.
The cables and lace are charted, written instructions for the charts are included.
This pattern has been professionally tech edited by Sarah Walworth, and test knitted.

Sizing:
10 sizes graded to fit full bust circumferences of 30” to 66” / 75 cm to 165 cm.
Finished Bust Circumference:
35.5”, 39.25”, 42.5”, (47”, 51.5”, 54.5”) {59.25”, 63”, 66.75”, 71.25”} /
89 cm, 98.5 cm, 106 cm, (117.5 cm, 129 cm, 136.5 cm) {148 cm, 157.5 cm, 167 cm, 178.5 cm}
Cross Shoulder Width:
13”, 13.25”, 14”, (14.5”, 14.75”, 15.5”) {16”, 16.25”, 17”, 17.5”}
/ 32.5 cm, 33.5 cm, 35 cm, (36 cm, 37 cm, 39 cm) {40 cm, 41 cm, 42.5 cm, 43.5 cm}
For best fit choose a size with a cross shoulder width similar to your cross front width. If unsure, measure the distance between the shoulder seams of a set-in sleeve pullover that fits you well, and choose the size with the same measurement. The stockinette panels at the underarms allow for straightforward width modifications if your chosen size doesn’t have the amount of ease you would like.
Graded with 5” / 12.5 cm of positive ease at the full bust, and 3” / 7.5 cm of positive ease at the bicep.
See schematic and size chart in photos for more detailed measurements. The first 4 rows are body sizes the pullover is intended to fit. A-H are garment measurements.
Mint sample is size 2 with waist shaping and the length recommended in pattern (4 diamond repeats). Worn with 4” / 10 cm of positive ease at the full bust and 2” / 5 cm of positive ease at the bicep. My cross front measurement is 13” / 32.5 cm.
Cream sample is also size 2, but without waist shaping, and it has an additional repeat in the body (5 diamond repeats)
Sizes 1-6 have 4 diamond repeats for the body, sizes 7-10 have 5.
Gauge:
26 stitches and 28 rows in 4” / 10 cm in cables on (Larger) needles, after blocking.
21 stitches and 28 rows in 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on (Larger) needles, after blocking.
Sizes 4-10 should prioritize the stockinette gauge.
Needles and Notions:
(Larger) US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge after blocking.
(Smaller) US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles, or size needed to work neat 1x1 ribbing.
16 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors, tape measure, 2 cable needles, waste yarn or stitch holders.
(Optional) US D / 3 mm crochet hook for attaching the collar to itself.
Yardage:
Rico Design Creative Fluffily DK 3, 3, 3, (3, 4, 4) {5, 5, 5, 5} skeins (459 yards / 420 meters per 150 g), 40% Cotton, 30% Polyester, 20% Acrylic, 10% Wool, in the color ‘13 Aqua’.
OR 1069, 1163, 1242, (1358, 1460, 1572) {1883, 2012, 2134, 2270} yards / 978, 1064, 1137, (1243, 1336, 1438) {1723, 1841, 1953, 2078} meters of comparable DK weight yarn.
This yarn has a blown chainette construction. It is lightweight and fluffy. A fingering weight + fluffy lace weight yarn can also be substituted for a similar effect and drape.
Substituting with heavy DK / light worsted will result in a pullover with more body, and less drape. My cream sample is knit in Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt (100% Norwegian Wool).
Each additional full diamond repeat on the body will require an additional 109, 121, 133, (146, 158, 170) {184, 195, 207, 221} yards / 100, 111, 121, (134, 145, 155) {168, 179, 189, 202} meters.
Each additional full diamond repeat on the sleeves will require an additional 79, 87, 91, (98, 105, 115) {124, 133, 143, 152} yards / 72, 79, 84, (89, 96, 105) {113, 122, 130, 139} meters.
As with all my size inclusive garment patterns, you can use the code ANTIFATTAX to get 20% off the pattern, intended for sizes 6-10 to help combat the extra costs incurred by knitting larger sizes.
