Foula is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the British Isles.
The name Foula comes from the Old Norse for ‘bird island’
YARN
- 3 skeins of The Scottish Yarn Festival DK (80% Shetland Wool, 20% Cheviot Wool; approx. 230m 252yds per 100g)
OR approx. 610m 667yds of any DK weight yarn.
SIZE
- approx. 166cm/65” on the top edge, approx. 130cm/51” on the bottom edge and approx. 108cm/42” wide at the bind off edge.
NEEDLES
- 4mm US6 circular needles (100cm/40” or longer), or size needed to get gauge.
GAUGE
- approx. 18sts & 22 rows = 10cm/4” in lace pattern
- gauge is not crucial since this is a shawl, but different gauge will affect the size of the shawl and the amount of yarn needed.
NOTIONS
- tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
- stitch markers if you want to mark the pattern repeats
