Four Corners
It will probably take you a very long time to work out the special property of this 4-coloured 17 x 17 square. If you want to know click below.
Look at any block of squares and you will never find a rectangle or square that has all four corners the same colour.
The photos show a wall-hanging about 71 cm (28”) square, excluding the border. The pattern includes instructions to make it bigger, or smaller, so you could make it afghan size if you want.
Any type of yarn could be used but it needs four distinct colours. I used about 220 metres (240 yards) of Stylecraft Special DK in Green, Royal, Matador and Sunshine, with Midnight for the border. It is worked from the centre outwards using a mixture of intarsia and log cabin.
It was inspired by a presentation in a recent competition to find The World’s Most Interesting Mathematician (2019)
