Fractal Reaction
Every action sets off a chain of reactions, leading to an endless series of consequences. These outcomes, neither positive nor negative, simply leave their mark on our lives.
The Fractal Reaction shawl represents this concept through contracting triangles, forming a fractal pattern. Created using a two color brioche motif, the shawl features a fractal shape that showcases the beauty of contracting triangles.
SIZES
One Size: see the schematic for dimensions
YARN
Urth Yarns, Harvest Fingering & Uneek Fingering (100% SW Merino wool; 435 yds / 400 m per 100 g skein), 2 skeins of each color, shown in #3024 as Uneek (C1), Thyme as Harvest (C2)
YARDAGE
approx. 870 yds / 800 m of fingering weight yarn for both colors
NEEDLES
US 4 / 3.50 mm circular needles, in several lengths to accomodate stitches; or size needed to obtain correct gauge
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle
GAUGE
19 sts x 26 rows = 4” / 10 cm in charted 2-color Brioche motif, after blocking
SKILLS
Level: Intermediate
Techniques: 2-color Brioche, Brioche increases and decreases, picking up stitches
NOTES
Fractal Reaction is worked flat with a 2-color Brioche motif, in a fractal shape, formed by contracting triangles. It starts with the largest triangle and continues with smaller ones, picking up stitches along the sloped edge of each triangle. There are 5 triangles creating this shawl. The dominant color changes by reversing the color order in each triangle.
