This design was created for Yarndale 2021. It is based on a much bigger and more complex blanket called Tessellated Tiles. This version is smaller, more manageable design. Squares are made in the round and then sewn together with edge triangles and the edging added last. We chose the name Pythagorean because we found that designing a blanket made up of triangles and squares required the practical application of Pythagoras’ theorem at regular intervals. Not for a total novice but beginners with attitude or intermediate knitters shouldn’t have any problems.
This version used WYS ColourLab but any DK could be used.
MC: 716 Deep Teal x 4
CC1: 647 Very Berry x 2
CC2: 010 Natural Cream
There was only about two metres left of CC2 so if you tend to use more yarn than specified when you knit, buy an extra ball.

Tension does not have to be exact to the pattern but does need to be consistent or the squares will be different sizes.
Make sure all cast ons are loose so that the edges don’t pucker and when sewing together keep checking that sewing is not too tight. A lot of tension issues can be blocked out but not everything can be!

Renamed ‘Fragmented Pythagorean’ as the ‘lazy’ version of this blanket which avoids sewing by picking up and knitting is now available and called ‘Fused’ Pythagorean
