Framework
Inspiration comes from many places – this throw is loosely based on an openwork cement support I saw holding up a friend’s front porch.
While I chose a warm color palette and decided to orient each block the same way, you can go crazy with your own color selections, or orient the blocks differently to create pools of color. You can even hit the stash and use up all your scraps for the interior colors as long as you use one neutral color for the framework, to hold it all together visually.
Easy to crochet, finished Size: 48” x 55” after a light blocking
Materials: Approximately 2600 yards worsted weight (CYCA medium 4) 80% acrylic/20% wool yarn in six colors. Model shown used 6 skeins Charcoal #613 (MC),2 skeins each Burnt Orange #652 (CC1), Cocoa #611 (CC2), Fire #619 (CC4), Leaf Green #632(CC5),and 1 skein Lemon #602 (CC3). Note that there was a fair amount left of the second skein of the four corner colors, so if you want to make more squares for a larger throw, you might only need extra skeins of MC and CC3.
Crochet hook size H/8/5.0 mm or size needed to get gauge. Gauge not critical in this pattern.
Gauge: 12 sts and 8 rows = 4” in dc
Pattern includes directions in text plus a full color chart of the block!
