Frangipani Plumeria
Beautiful tropical flowers - if you can’t have the real thing you could try the crochet variety!
Make a few or many - they look great in large numbers for weddings, birthdays or special occasions. Add some tropical decor to a wall! Applique or embellishment - they are just nice to have around on your desk or wherever you can think of : )
These flowers are made in 3 rounds using well known stitches.
If you have crocheted flowers before you won’t have any problem with this pattern. If you are a beginner you gain valuable crochet experience!
Step by step instructions and photos.
Includes approximate yarn quantities.
The pattern is written in both US and UK terminology.
You will need to know:
- fingerwrap/magic ring or whatever method you prefer to make an adjustable loop that you can crochet into. (Fingerwrap is yarn wrapped around your index finger 2 or 3 times and then you crochet into it.)
- chain
- slip stitch
- single crochet (US) / double crochet (UK)
- half double crochet (US) / half treble crochet (UK)
- double crochet (US) / treble crochet (UK)
- half treble crochet (US) / half double treble crochet (UK)
- treble crochet (US) / double treble crochet (UK)
- invisible join - there are videos on the internet for this if you need to learn (search for crochet invisible join )
- tapestry needle
yarn: I used DK/8ply 100% acrylic - The pattern is adaptable to all types of yarn. I used standard acrylic but you could try cotton or wool or anything you like!
hooks : 3mm/C2 or D3 and 4mm/G6 - Use the recommended knitting needle size for your crochet hook size - so if it’s 4mm needle use a 4mm hook. (If you use crochet yarn then use the recommended hook size for that yarn) You will also need one size smaller hook - 3mm in this case.
size: diameter is 5.2cm/2in The size depends on the yarn - finer yarn makes smaller flowers and thicker yarn makes bigger flowers.
Frangipanis come in different colours so you could try pinks or oranges - whatever combinations you like.
Any questions, please ask.
