This is a pattern for a Circular Sock Machine. It is knit on a 72 needle cylinder. You can also knit it on a flat bed knitting machine in the round.

You could easily knit it by hand in the round using US1 or US2 needles using short rows for the shaping.

If made according to instructions he is baby/child safe if you leave off the charms.
