This easy Frankenstein’s Monster decoration crochet pattern is called ‘Francis the Monster’. This is a quick crochet pattern ideal for the Halloween season.

The pattern uses a minimal amount of Cotton DK and a 2.5mm crochet hook (2.75mm would also be okay). While this is an easy pattern, some crochet knowledge is required, but the pattern has been written in a beginner-friendly way.

The pattern is available for free on my blog, but if you’d prefer the ad-free version as a PDF download, this can be purchased from my Ravelry store. I hope you like Francis and can’t wait to see your make!

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: DK cotton yarn. I used Rico Ricorumi DK in the following colours: Green (13 grams = 30 m/ 33 yds), Black (3 grams = 7 m / 7.6 yds), Pink (1 gram = 2.3 m/ 2.5 yds), and White (1 gram = 2.3 m/ 2.5 yds)
  • Crochet hook: Size 2.5mm
  • Other materials: Stuffing, needle, scissors, pins, stitch marker

Halloween decoration size

Using the yarn and hook size in this pattern, my Francis the Monster turned out to be approximately 11cm/4.3″ high (excluding chain loop) by 9.5cm/3.8″ wide (from ear to ear). Please note the size of your make will vary depending on your hook size, the yarn you use, and your tension/gauge.

Gauge

Gauge is not required for this pattern, however keep tension consistent throughout. For reference, my gauge was as follows:
12 sc stitches on 5 cm / 1.97 “
12 rows on 5 cm / 1.97 “

Additional Information

  • Pattern language: English
  • Pattern terms: US terms
  • Stitches used: Magic Circle, Single Crochet, Half Double Crochet, Double Crochet, Chain, Slip Stitch, Increases and Decreases
  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing from appearing through your stitches.
  • Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
  • Copyright: You are more than welcome to sell your crocheted creations using this pattern on a small scale. However, the pattern itself cannot be reproduced, sold, or redistributed in any way without the designers’ consent.
