Frankie Hat
About this Pattern
I knit this pattern using Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK in Plump and Hedgehog Fibres Sock in Bramble. I held two strands of the Bramble together to achieve the same gauge as the DK. This pattern uses an easy technique of slipping stitches to create a beautiful latticed colour effect. Experiment with colour by holding leftover fingering weight/4ply yarn double for marling or fading techniques, or just use two lovely DK colours together. It’s a great pattern to play with colour!
Sizing
Adult/Teen
Finished object is 10” high and has a circumference of 16”.
It’s designed for a slouchy fit, but you can make it more fitted by reducing the number of CO stitches to 108 and modifying the length of the body as desired
Gauge
28 stitches and 32 rows = 4” in stockinette.
I strongly suggest you knit a gauge swatch for this. I’m a very tight knitter and ALWAYS need to go up a needle size when knitting well-known patterns. If you consider your gauge to be loose or even ‘normal’, you may want to consider going down a needle size to achieve gauge.
Yarn
Colour A: Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK in Plump Colourway. (115g, 200m)
Colour B: Hedgehog Fibres Sock (held double) in Bramble Colourway (100g/400m).
I used approximately 50g of each colourway for the hat.
Needles and Other Materials
3.5mm (Size 4) and 4mm (Size 6) 16” circular needles.
1 tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Cable needle (optional).
