Actually using a self striping yarn helps with that effect. Or if you want more control over color changes you can use some scrap yarn and change at will.

For a more polished look you can use a single color.

Pattern included pants, skirt, top, hat and purse. Pants are worked flat and pieced together with size 3 needle. The rest of the pieces are knitted with size 2 needle.
