Brushing is the hottest knitting trend right now!

The Fredag hat and mittens are intentionally chunky, with their surface brushed heavily to achieve an extra fluffy texture.
Both are also knitted tightly to create a thick fabric that keeps the wind at bay.
Using large needles, both hat and the mittens can be finished in a single evening. Believe it or not, the hat takes only takes a few hours – like a Friday (’fredag’ in Swedish) night and a couple of good movies, and the mittens max 2 hours.
Both the hat and the mittens are worked from the top down so they are started from the crown or fingertips. The reason for this direction is in the increases: with chunky yarn, the shape looks better with increases rather than decreases. You can also try the hat on as you knit to decide on your preferred height.
You can switch up the yarn, but note that the hat and the mittens require multiple strands: the entire hat is worked with 4 strands held together, while the fold and lining use only 2 strands. This way, the fold over the ears won’t be overly thick. The entire mittens are worked with 3 strands held together, while the lining use only 1 strand. That’s how the edge looks extra cool, when the fabric continues on the edge.
