Free Spirit Poncho CAL
This pattern will be available for free on my blog here: https://aloopofsunshinecrochet.com/free-spirit-poncho-cal... , in 6 parts, released over 6 weeks, with written instructions, and video tutorials. If you would prefer to work from a print-friendly pdf, you can purchase it here, for a small fee.
The Free Spirit Poncho combines dense stitches and openwork sections, for a fantastic drape of the fabric, while still keeping you warm. The subtle mandala center adds a little something special to this classical piece. Likewise, the mesh details of the border, and the two colored fringe give the poncho a modern, slightly boho look.
If you have seen my previous creations, you’ll know that I love versatile designs, that can be easily adapted and tweaked. This design is no exception! And the best thing is you can adapt and adjust the look of your poncho just by draping it in many different ways. But you will also have two options for the neckline – either a very feminine V-neck, or a super warm cowl neck.
SUPPLIES
Yarn: Scheepjes Spirit
- 6 balls (50g/210m) of main color (in my case, Eagle) for the body of the poncho + 1 more ball for cowl neck if you choose to make one + 1 more ball for fringe
- 2 contrasting colors – 1 ball each (in my case, Blue Jay and Dragonfly)
Note: This pattern will also work with a variety of Sport weight (#2) and DK weight (#3) yarns (Scheepjes Spirit is quite an unusual yarn - it’s thickness is between Sport and DK weight, but it’s extremely light and fluffy, so its actual weight is Fingering). If you have a favorite brand, or if you already have a yarn that you love in your stash, dive in! Just remember that your poncho will be a little heavier than mine (therefore, you should only look at the yardage for the quantities of yarn you will need)
3.5mm (E) hook, or hook to match gauge
Scissors and darning needle to weave in ends
