Freeform Crochet Button Flower Swirl
I created this motif to use as part of larger freeform projects. It measures 5.5” X 4.75”. Although an intermediate familiarity with crochet is suggested this would be a great introduction to freeform. The motif is small but the tutorial is packed with useful information about freeform and a number of different stitches and techniques (see below). Specifically, general information about freeform, a discussion about choosing yarn, explanations of why I do certain things, how to block the final motif, and ideas for experimenting on your own are included. This tutorial is 16 pages and has 53 full-color photos.
The following intermediate/advanced stitches/techniques are included in the tutorial:
• Standing sc
• Standing hdc
• Knurl/Crab/Reverse sc/Corded ridge Stitch
• Bullion (using latch hook)
• Royal Ridge
• Berry Stitch
• Invisible Join when a standing hdc is worked in the round
• Invisible Join when a kn is worked in the round
I used the following acrylic worsted weight yarn available from Hobby Lobby:
• I Love This Yarn – Orchid (290)
• I Love This Yarn – Grape (300)
• I Love This Yarn – Light Peach (230)
• I Love This Yarn – Sunset (416)
You will also need a size G aluminum crochet hook. There are some other accessories (i.e. blocking supplies) that are handy (listed in the tutorial) but they are not critical to actually making the motif itself.
If you have any questions about the contents of the tutorial please don’t hesitate to message me.
