Freestyle Aran Sweater
A Freestyle Aran Sweater, inspired by the timeless elegance of Irish Aran traditions. This stunning garment effortlessly combines comfort and style, creating a wearable work of art.
The knitting pattern is available in size S/M.
The knitting description provides clearly written knitting instructions for each row, accompanied by knitting charts for each panel, making the entire knitting process easy and organized.
The Sweater measures approximately 55 cm (21.5 inches) in length and 46 cm (18 inches) in width.
Crafted from Extrafine 100% Merino wool, the sweater epitomizes luxury and comfort. Merino wool is renowned for its exceptional softness, warmth, and breathability, making it an ideal choice for this Sweater. It drapes effortlessly against the body, providing a cozy and comfortable feel while still ensuring a flattering and stylish fit.
For this sweater, I chose an Extrafine 100% Merino wool in a Soft-gray color from the German brand “Schachenmayr.”
The total weight of yarn used was 500g, which required 10 balls of 50g each with a ball length of 170m.
I employed 3.5mm needles for the Hem and Neck (Rib 1x1) and 4mm needles for the Aran body of the sweater.
Achieving a gauge of 30 stitches and 32 rows in 10cm.
The sweater’s design features a dropped shoulder, contributing to its relaxed and contemporary silhouette. This design choice adds an effortless touch of casual elegance to the overall look, making it perfect for both cozy evenings by the fire and a stylish outing in the city.
The pattern of the sweater showcases a beautiful combination of cables and diamonds in various sizes. The cables intertwine gracefully, forming a mesmerizing tapestry of texture and depth. These cables are complemented by diamonds, adding a geometric charm and structural balance to the design.
To further enhance the visual appeal, the sweater is embellished with knitted Popcorn stitch. These delightfully textured accents are strategically placed within the diamonds, creating a playful and whimsical touch. The Popcorn stitch adds a three-dimensional quality to the sweater, inviting the viewer to explore and appreciate each intricate detail.
Nestled within the diamonds is a delicate Moss stitch, adding a subtle yet captivating element to the overall pattern. The Moss stitch, known for its intricate texture and visual interest, creates a beautiful contrast to the boldness of the cables and diamonds. This stitch adds depth and complexity to the design, making the sweater a true masterpiece of knitting artistry.
One of the most striking elements of this sweater is the diagonal knitted cables. These cables, carefully crafted with meticulous attention to detail, create a sense of movement and texture. The diagonal direction adds a dynamic and eye-catching aspect to the design, showcasing the skill and artistry of the knitter.
The high, fitted cabled cuffs are an exquisite feature that adds a touch of refinement to the sweater. The multiple cables on the cuffs create a flattering and elegant shape. This attention to detail not only enhances the visual appeal but also ensures a snug and comfortable fit for the wearer.
Completing the sweater’s design is a wide Crew Neck, featuring a spiraled edge that carries the symbolic weight of Celtic culture. The spiral, reminiscent of the eternal knot symbol, holds deep meaning representing interconnectedness and eternity. This collar not only adds a touch of mystique but also frames the face elegantly, adding a subtle feminine grace to the overall look.
No matter the occasion, Freestyle Aran Sweater effortlessly combines comfort and sophistication, making it a must-have addition to any wardrobe.
