Just like a French Kiss this cardigan is light and elegant:) This lovely cardigan features gorgeous lace along the fronts and cuffs. It is an elegant, open-front cardigan with a little swing in the fronts which allows it to be overlapped, closed with a brooch, buttoned or simply worn open. The length is cropped, it could easily be worked to any length (remember to add extra yarn if adding length).

I was really proud to see their beautiful cardigans and to see how well the pattern turned out.

Constuction
The cardigan is worked top-down in a completely seamless construction. The innovative yoke-pieces are worked in one piece with the upper back, sts are picked up across the yoke-pieces for each front. At underarms back and fronts are joined and lower body is worked in one piece to the bind-off. There are increases towards the lace-panels of the fronts, adding width and some “swing”. Sleeves are worked from picked up sts along the armhole-openings. The sleeve cap is created using simple short rows (no need to pick up wraps), from the underarm sleeves are worked in the round to the bind-off.

You can try the cardigan on as you work to decide for best length of the lower body as well as for the sleeves.

Sizes
The cardigan is open-front, therefore it is the measurement of the widest point of the back (at bust-height) that is the most important when choosing size. There are 7 sizes to choose from, each size will cover approximately 1” up or down: 34/36/38/40/42/44/46”.
The sample is made in size 34”, with approximately 1” of positive ease.

Materials
Yarn: The sample is made in Shilasdair’s “Luxury 4-ply”, a fingering weight yarn that comes in skeins of 50gr/1.76oz and 200m/220yards. You will need 4/5/5/5/6/6/7 skeins of this yarn to work the cropped cardigan. If you choose length you need more yarn. Please note Some of my testers used DK weight yarn, which worked out great! If you choose to work with sport or DK weight you need to count for more yarn.

Needles Use needle size to obtain gauge! I used needle size 3mm/US2.5 (same size for the whole garment), this is a suggestion only. You will need straight or circular needles for the upper back and upper fronts, a long, circular needle for the lower body and a set of dpns (or circular needle if working the magic loop) for the sleeves.

Notions 2 small holders, 1 large (or several small) holder(s) for the upper back sts, removable stitch-markers, a crochet hook and scrap yarn (if you work the underarm sts from a provisional cast-on. This method is optional). Blunt tapestry needle.

The pattern¨
The pattern is fully tested.
All stitch-counts are given. Lace is charted as well as written out row-by-row. There are a couple of close ups on the yoke pieces attached to the back as well as the front to make it easy to understand. There is a schematic. All measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.

Knitting skills
The techniques used are: cast-on, simple short-rows, picking up sts, working lace from charts and/or written instructions. I honestly think that an intermediate knitter could easily work this cardigan:)
