This egg-shaped amigurumi Unicorn is a fun crochet pattern for the Easter holidays! It’s a quick project that requires minimal sewing.
While you do need a little bit of crocheting experience to make the Freya the Unicorn, you don’t need to be an expert. Beginner crocheters should also be able to pick this pattern up and get started right away as long as they know the basic crochet stitches.
The pattern is available for free on my blog here. However, if you’d prefer the ad-free version as a PDF download, this can be purchased from my Ravelry store.
Materials Needed
- DK chenille yarn in 5 colours of your choice. For reference, I used Rico Design Ricorumi Nilli Nilli. The colours I used are: (1) Dark Purple (2 grams = 5.2 m / 5.7 yds) (2) Light Purple (5 grams = 13 m / 14.3 yds) (3) Yellow (1 gram = 2.6 m / 2.9 yds) (4) Pink (1 gram = 2.6 m / 2.9 yds) (5) Green (1 gram = 2.6 m / 2.9 yds)
- Stuffing
- Needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- Stitch marker
- Safety eyes 6 mm
Gauge
Gauge is not required for this pattern, however keep tension consistent throughout. For reference my gauge was:
6 sc stitches on 2.5 cm / 1 “
6 rows on 2.5 cm / 1 “
Additional Information
- Pattern language: English
- Pattern terms: US terms
- Stitches used: Magic circle, sc, sl st, increases and decreases
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
- Eyes: Please note that safety eyes are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age. As an alternative, you can crochet or embroider the eyes.
- Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round/row to keep track of the number of stitches.
- Decreases: I recommend using the invisible decrease method for all amigurumi pieces throughout.
- No-sew: The feet and ears are attached to the body while you crochet. Therefore, you will need to crochet the feet and ears before you crochet the body. This is explained clearly throughout the pattern.
- Copyright: You are more than welcome to sell your crocheted creations using this pattern on a small scale. However, the pattern itself cannot be reproduced, sold, or redistributed in any way without the designers’ consent.
