Frida Feather
The Frida Feather shawl is designed for all these special hand dyed skeins of yarn we all fell in love with for their color only, to show off all their beauty. I wanted something that can be knit with a single 100 g skein of fingering weight yarn, but still with an adaptable shape, so you can scale it up or down according to your knitting style and available yardage.
An easy to remember stitch pattern, but still with that little extra that keeps you interested and makes you tick along.
PATTERN NOTES:
The shawl is worked sideways, as a narrow asymmetrical triangle. Starting at the right tip with a 4-stitches cast-on, you first work some setup rows for the ribbed eyelet border until enough width for the main part is reached.
The main part is worked in stripe segments of a star stitch pattern stripe and a garter section, and it is adjustable to your yardage and tension.
The shawl is finished with an I-cord bind-off.
The piece gets its asymmetric shape from single and double increases worked at the beginning, and decreases worked at the end of each right side row.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
approx. 195 cm / 78” along the long side
approx. 23 cm / 9¼“ at its widest part
See also schematic in photos.
YARN:
Samelin Dyeworks Silky Singles (70% Virgin wool- Merino/30% Silk; 400 m (437 yd)/100 g).
Sample shown in the colorway Flugrost.
Or any other fingering weight yarn that gives you the correct gauge.
This pattern is easily adaptable for other yarn weights.
If using a different weight of yarn, I recommend a gauge that gives you a drapey but solid fabric in garter stitch.
YARDAGE:
Approx. 1 skein of 400 m/437 yd fingering weight yarn.
NEEDLES:
3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle 80 cm/32“ or a length appropriate for you to knit the number of sts on the needles comfortably.
GAUGE:
26 sts and 48 rows in 10 cm/4” in garter stitch, worked flat (blocked).
Gauge is not critical for this design but will affect the finished size and yardage.

Tapestry needle
