The Freundschaft Shrug is a very quick and easy knit using bulky yarn and large needles. This is a perfect project for beginners as well as experienced knitters who would like a fun movie-watching or conversation project that doesn’t require constant attention. The majority of stitches are knit! The fabric that is created is best described as snuggly and soft.

Shown in the pics are three different yarns used that give three entirely different results. Lion Brand Homespun creates a loose drape. This shrug is outlined with the crab stitch. Cascade 128 Superwash creates a slightly tighter stitch, equally as lovely. Crab stitch is only around the neck edge. Chunky Shetland Chunky creates a firmer stitch. It is shown embellished.

Make It Your Own - You can add fun embellishments to your Shrug. This shrug was knitted with Paton’s Shetland Chunky and embellished with a border of SMC Select Dolce Vita and other yarns to create a shabby-chic bohemian one-of-a-kind garment. Specific embellishment ideas are not included. They are for you to choose.

As an accessory, the Freundschaft Shrug can be dressed up or down for the urban or country fashionista. Design elements include curved front and back, textured vertical ridges, and a crab stitch edging. Feminine and fun! It is the perfect layering garment.

The Freundeschaft Shrug is published in honor of a very dear friend of mine. She has been an inspiration to me not only in my knitting designs but in many aspects of everyday life. She is an amazing person and dearly loved!

Materials
U.S. Size 15 36-inch or longer cable needle
U.S. Size 9 24- inch or longer cable needle
Approximately 260 yards of bulky # 5 yarn. Use a yarn that shows on wrapper approximately 14 stitch x 20 rows on U.S. Size 10 needles. Different bulky yarns will create slight variations in size. Be sure to block all shrugs knit with yarns that have natural fibers. Option approximately 20 yards for a coordinating color around edge.
Optional U.S. Size J crochet hook for crab or other border stitch.

17 inches length x 21 inches cuff to cuff
Using Paton’s Shetland Chunky measurements are:
12 inches length x 18 inches cuff to cuff
