I love the North Sea coast, especially Friesland! I have spent so many vacations there…
A bread roll with fish to go, walks by the sea no matter what the weather is like - the stiffer the breeze, the better - and, when I come home after such a walk (to the vacation home in my case), a nice cup of tea to warm up, relax and knit…
What could be better?
This placemat, reminiscent of the typical Frisian tableware in blue and white, brings the Frisian coziness to your home.
And if you don’t care about placemats or drinking tea, but you like the design, then you just knit a wonderful kitchen or guest towel.

Basic knitting skills needed
Cast on, knit and purl, knit edge stitches, slip purlwise (with yarn in front / with yarn in back), cast off
For crossing stitches without cable needle there are useful links included in the pattern.

Dimensions
After hand wash and blocking:
44 cm x 29 cm / 17.5“ x 11.5“
(suitable for a placemat or a guest/kitchen towel)

Material
1 circular needle (US size 2.5, 24” long)
or a pair of needles (US size 2.5)
Cotton yarn (100% cotton) in 2 colors (50g of each color)
Hobbii Baby Cotton (Fingering – Super Fine)
or Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 (Fingering – Super Fine)
or Schachenmayr Catania (Sport – Fine)
If you take a Sport-weight cotton yarn, the placemat/towel will become a little bigger.
1 darning needle for weaving in the yarn ends

Gauge
10 cm x 10 cm / 4“ x 4“= 26 stitches and 36 rows
in slip-stitch pattern of pattern stripe 2 (see below)
Tip: Observing the gauge is only needed if certain dimensions are to be achieved.

Ich liebe die Nordseeküste, besonders Friesland! Dort habe ich schon so oft Urlaub gemacht…
Das Fischbrötchen auf die Hand, die Spaziergänge an der See egal bei welchem Wetter – je steifer die Brise, desto besser – und, wenn man nach einem solchen Spaziergang nach Hause kommt (in meinem Fall ins Ferienhaus) eine wunderbare Tasse Tee, um sich aufzuwärmen, sich zu entspannen und zu stricken.
Was gibt es Schöneres?
Dieses Tischset, das an das typisch friesische Geschirr in blau und weiß erinnert, bringt die friesische Gemütlichkeit zu Dir nach Hause.
Und wenn Du mit Teetrinken oder Tischsets so gar nichts anfangen kannst, Dir aber das Design gefällt, dann strickst du eben ein tolles Küchen- oder Gästehandtuch.

Maschen anschlagen, rechte und linke Maschen stricken, Randmaschen rechts stricken, Maschen links abheben (mit dem Faden hinter/vor der Masche), Maschen abketten

Wenn du ein Baumwollgarn mit Garnstärke Sport/Fine nimmst, wird das Tischset oder Handtuch ein wenig größer
1 Stopfnadel zum Vernähen der Fadenenden

Maschenprobe
10 cm x 10 cm = 26 Maschen und 36 Reihen im Muster des Musterstreifens 2 (siehe unten)
Tipp: Die Maschenprobe ist hier nur nötig, wenn bestimmte Maße eingehalten werden sollen.
