The Fringed Brioche Scarf is in basic brioche rib. However it has a very exciting feature - a new type of selvedge. This technique is fully explained in the pattern with written instructions, diagrams and videos. Because of the nature of Brioche stitch its selvedges are worked slightly differently from Garter stitch selvedges.

Two types of selvedge for Garter stitch - closed and open - can be found in the free patterns for Garter stitch projects:

The pattern was designed to demonstrate possibilities of Distitch selvedges. Distitch is the innovative principle of knitting which is explained in full detail in a new book Distitch. Distitch provides a very neat, clear and decorative edge: some samples are presented in this video. More about Distitch knitting can be found on website https://assiabrill.com/

This scarf uses a new way to join yarns and work in the ends as you knit - The Loop Join, https://assiabrill.com/knitting-2/loop-join/

The scarf is worked in conventional Brioche rib stitch. It has a rectangular shape and can be knitted as long and as wide as you wish. Any yarn can be used – from fingering to bulky.

This basic pattern is ideal for beginners.
