Frogs and Bugs
These little creepy crawlies are quick to knit, and are a super way to use up odds and ends in your yarn stash. This knitting pattern includes instructions to make four toys, including a snail, bumble bee, butterfly and frog. Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the toys are knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). The arms and legs are i-cord tubes worked on two DPNs.
NEEDLES
A pair each of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 4)
RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; a few grammes in each colour
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, and beads for eyes.
SIZES
One size only - The frog and bee are approximately 13cm tall, the snail 7cm tall, and the butterfly 9cm tall.
TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, knitting stripes, and seaming to finish. The snail shell uses short rows (wrap and turn) for shaping, and the eyeballs are knitted bobbles.
