Hearts have been my favorite shape for as long as I can remember. The meaning, vulnerability, and strength represented within the curves and point of a heart inspired me. Growing up, I would often take pens, markers, whatever I could find to trace its outline on my papers, the bottoms of my feet, hems of my jeans, or anything that that was mine and could reasonably be marked. Stemming from this, I have long desired to showcase an abundance of love in a fun but practical way.

This hat is the result, featuring ascending and descending hearts worked through combinations of simple knit and purl stitches. Perfect for a quick gift knit with love from the depths of your heart, it’s sized from Doll through Adult, designed with a standard ribbed brim and slight positive ease to showcase your hearts. This straightforward knit requires just one skein of Lemonade Shop DK weight yarn: the bright and beautiful rainbow variegated yarn will make the simple knit and purl stitches pop. Wear it with either stockinette or reverse stockinette hearts facing out as it doesn’t have a wrong side! For the days you feel inside out, right-side in, or even feel like a toddler who wants to wear what they want however it goes on first– take your heart, and feel the love, from the depths of my heart!

Notions: 1-7 stitch markers, tapestry needle

Yardage: 65 (80, 95, 125, 155, 170, 200) yards/ 60 (75, 90, 115, 145, 185) meters.

Needles: US5/3.75mm (16”/40cm) circular or DPNs; US6/4mm circular (16”/40cm) and DPNs.

Blocked Gauge: 22 stitches by 32 rounds equal 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch on larger needles.
