In 2012, I set out to write a love story.

It became my first novel, which takes place in tenth century Iceland--a place of rugged danger and breathtaking beauty. A world where Norse gods are real and women’s dyepots overflow with lichens and birch leaves. It’s called Beautiful Wreck.

Along the way, I started collecting ideas for shawls, stoles and scarves that are related to my fictional farm and the romantic story that takes place there.

I designed several over the course of a year and put them into a collection called My Viking Love Song.

From the Fields was the first.

This shawl came together after I studied how long it takes to clear an acre of grass by hand with a scythe (which is, btw, a lot less time than it takes to make the shawl.) The lace design reflects the shape of wind rows in the landscape.
