Fronsky the tawny owl
This .pdf crochet pattern is written in standard American crochet terms. With this very detailed pattern, you can make a super realistic looking tawny owl.
This is an intermediate pattern made with basic stitches. The difficulty lies in the colour changes; the strands can quickly become tangled, so you need to keep your focus!
Size
If you use the recommended yarn, your owl will be 5.5 inch / 14 cm tall
Materials
For this crochet owl you’ll need worsted weight yarn (Lètt Lopi) and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need three colours of yarn: light beige (0086), murky brown (1420) and chocolate heather (0867), half a skein of each colour is more than enough. For the beak I’ve used golden heather (9426), but any yellowish colour will do. For the eyes I’ve used 12 mm animal safety eyes. You also need fibrefill or wool for stuffing and pellets for extra weight in the body.
The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal, with instruction images with extra notes next to the text and example pictures at the bottom to help you get everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by experienced crocheters before publishing.
Yarn
Istex Lett lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result. Keep in mind a different type of yarn can give a different result!
Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
