FROST FLOWERS is a stranded colourwork sweater with a top-down construction and a round yoke. Starting with the neck, the sweater is worked seamlessly top down. After the colourwork yoke, short rows are worked to shape the neckline and then the body and sleeves are separated while casting on stitches for underarms.
As the sweater is knitted top-down, you can decide on the length as you go. The pattern and the yardage are given for an average height of 165 cm / 5 ‘ 5’’ and a slightly cropped sweater. Please adjust the lengths according to your individual body measurements.
SIZING:
The measurements listed below are for the final sweater after washing and blocking. This pattern comes in 10 sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) (7, 8, 9, 10) with finished sweater bust circumference measuring 86 (94, 102.5, 110.5, 117.5, 126) (134, 141, 150.5, 157.5) cm / 34.5 (37.5, 41, 44.25, 47, 50.5) (53.5, 56.5, 60.25, 63) inches and is meant to be worn with a positive ease of 10-20 cm / 4-8 inches in the bust. The sample is shown in size 4 with 18 cm / 7.25 inches of positive ease in the bust. To pick your size, measure around your full bust, add the desired ease and choose a size closest to that number.
SUGGESTED YARN:
Nutiden from Höner och Eir (2 strands held together) 100 - 120 gram plates of 470 - 500 metres / 515 – 550 yards. Sample is made with col. Medstroms as MC and Sno and Ragad as CC.
YARN SUBSTITUTION:
There is a great choice of various unspun yarns currently available, such as Plötulopi from Istex, Manchelopis from WoolDreamers, Thrive from Woollentwine. Other yarns of approximately worsted weight to achieve gauge could work equally well.
YARDAGE:
As each Nutiden colourway is unique in yardage and weight, it is very hard to give precise estimates of yardage required, so the numbers below are for guidance only:
Nutiden: 3.5 (4, 4, 4, 4.5, 5) (5, 5.5, 6, 6) plates of MC and 0.5 (0.5, 1, 1, 1, 1) (1, 1, 1, 1) plate of CC
Worsted weight yarn: MC 800 (850, 950, 1060, 1130, 1200) (1280, 1350, 1400, 1450) metres / 875 (930, 1039, 1159, 1235, 1312) (1400, 1476, 1531, 1586) yards, CC 130 (145, 160, 175, 190, 205) (215, 225, 240, 250) metres / 142 (159, 175, 191, 208, 224) (235, 246, 262, 273) yards.
Total yarn usage will depend on the type of yarn you use (fibre content, ply, etc.), your gauge, and any changes to the pattern you might make. It is always advisable to have a little more yarn than you think you might need for the project.
GAUGE:
17 sts / 25 rnds per 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette / colourwork in the round on size B / C needles (after washing and blocking)
NEEDLES:
Size A - 80-120 cm Circular needles - 3.25 mm (US 3) for ribbing
Size B - 80-120 cm Circular needles - 4 mm (US 6) or other to achieve gauge for the body
Size C - 80-120 cm Circular needles - 4.5 mm (US 7) or other to achieve gauge in colourwork
