Frosted Glass Gloves
Second in the Glass Collection of short row centric patterns, Frosted Glass fingerless gloves are designed to use colour to play off the shaping that short rows can provide as a design feature, whilst also utilising short rows as a non-standard construction technique to great effect. Paired with the Stained glass shawlette, you can use 2 x 50g fingering weight skeins to create them both and still have enough left over for a reverse colour pair of gloves.
Built from the thumb down, the gloves are constructed in 4 different sections. The thumb, each side of the top of the hand and the bottom of the hand into the ribbing. As the construction is non-standard the pattern includes step by step instructions and a picture tutorial to help you get from the thumb to the hand. Once you’ve done it once though, you’ll be blazing through the construction which is intuitive and easy to relax into. With the gloves being such a quick knit, they’ll become one of your go to patterns for last minute gifts.
The gloves use very little yarn and can be made out of 2 mini skeins as a pair weighs 25g altogether. You can play with colours and use up scraps in your gloves as the unique construction allows for many different colours to be used to create different effects. Use several different colours or gradients to change the look of your gloves everytime.
This design is predominantly knitted out of short rows and as such it is recommended that you are comfortable with working them, specifically German short rows, which are the suggested method (there is a link to a tutorial and an overview of the technique in the pattern). However once you settle into the pattern, the flow is very intuitive and a fun knit.
