A svelte turtleneck pullover in Loft belongs at the heart of a wardrobe. Add a beautiful yoke that incorporates purl stitches for subtle texture and you’ve got a striking and timeless design. A high-contrast palette draws the eye ever deeper into the forest forms of the intricate motif. Trim tailoring and a ribbed neck that can be worn scrunched or folded make this sweater easy to dress up or down. Frostpeak is equally successful with the light and dark values reversed.

Construction

The body and sleeves are worked circularly from the bottom up and joined at the underarms, then the yoke is worked in the round to the neckline. The body is shaped using Short Rows: Yarn Over Method.

Yardage

Fingering weight wool yarn in the following approximate amounts

1740 (1960, 2170, 2410, 2645, 2915, 3150) yards Color 1 (C1)
130 (140, 150, 160, 205, 215, 230) yards Color 2 (C2)

Yarn

Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% American Targhee-Columbia Wool 275 yards/50 grams)

7 (8, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) skeins of Color 1 (C1)
1 skein of Color 2 (C2)
Photographed in colors Cast Iron (C1) & Snowbound (C2)

Gauge

26 stitches & 39 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch with Size A needle, after blocking
26 stitches & 26 rounds = 4” in chart pattern with Size B needle, after blocking
Note: Correct length of the one-piece yoke is dependent upon achieving the stated round gauge.

Needles

Size A (for Single-Color Stockinette Stitch)
One each 16” and 24” (or 32” for larger sizes) circular needles and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size needed to obtain gauge listed
Suggested Size: 3¾ mm (US 5)

Size B (for Two-Color Rounds of Chart Pattern)
One each 16” and 24” (or 32”) circular needles, one size larger than Size A
Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)
Due to significant variance among knitters, your colorwork fabric should be swatched and wet-blocked prior to knitting your sweater to determine whether or not this needle size should be larger, smaller or equal to Size A. Please read about Speed-Swatching for Circular Knitting (see Special Techniques).

Size C (for Ribbing)
One each 16” and 24” (or 32”) circular needles and one set of DPNs, three sizes smaller than Size A
Suggested Size: 2¾ mm (US 2)

Size D (optional; for Tubular Cast On and Bind Off only)
One each 16” and 24” (or 32”) circular needles and one set of DPNs, one size smaller than Size C
Suggested Size: 2¼ mm (US 1)
Note: If you have adjusted the needle size to obtain the correct gauge, it may or may not be necessary to make a matching adjustment to the needle size used for Tubular Cast On due to variance in individual work. You may wish to test your chosen cast-on method on your swatch.

32” circular needle can be used instead of DPNs if using the Magic Loop method for working small circumferences in the round (e.g., Sleeves).
