Frosty Air
Frosty Air shawl is focused on mixing time-honored Orenburg lace stitch patterns with a modern shape, more colors, and thicker yarn.
Frosty Air shawl is an asymmetrical triangular shape, knitted sideways. The pattern is garter stitch-based lace and it is worked on both sides. You can work from the written instructions or the charts. The size is easy to adjust by working the pattern repeats more or fewer times in each section.
I choose to knit my sample in a DK weight with 2 colors, but you can pick any yarn weight (with the appropriate needle size) and introduce as many CC colors as you want. Imagine a long gradient as the main color!
Skills: knit, kfb, yo, k2tog.
Yarn:
- MC - Miss Babs Yowza in White Peppercorns (100% SW Merino, 560 yd /225g) - 1 skein.
- CC - Miss Babs Yowza Mini in Sadalmelik (100% SW Merino, 200 yd / 80g) - 1 skein.
Or any similar DK weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors.
Needles: US #6 / 4 mm circular needles (or as required to get the gauge)
Notions: darning needle.
Gauge: 16 sts x 26 rows = 4” in pattern. Gauge is not crucial for this project, but it will affect the yardage and finished size if different from above.
Sizing: wingspan 80”, depth 23”(after wet blocking)
The instructions are available in 2 formats:
-
compact (4 pages, 11 pt)
-
large print (11 pages, 20 pt), the version with big letters for those who use portable devices like tablets and e-readers; also for those knitters who have difficulties reading small font on paper.
