Frosty Birch
This pattern was born out of yearning for colour as well as out of learning to find beauty in details that often get overshadowed. Winter is a time for reflection and for mindfulness and I hope that you will find your calm knitting this hat that does not require advanced skills or a lot of time and can be seen as a type of meditation.
It is knit from the bottom up in stockinette stitch with US 2 ½ - 3.0 mm 16-inch needle until using the circular needle becomes difficult. The top of the crown is then shaped with 5 double-pointed US 2 ½ - 3.0 mm needles.
Size
One size that comfortably fits average adult head size.
Measurements
51 cm or 20 inch in circumference, 27 cm or 10.6 inch in length.
Gauge
28 stitches and 30 rows equals 10 cm (3.9 inch) in stranded.
Needles
US 2 ½ - 3.0 mm 16-inch and 5 double-pointed US 2 ½ - 3.0 mm needles for the top of the crown.
Materials
50 g of the background colour (in this case Drops Baby Merino) and 15 g of three other colours for ornaments (you can use any leftover yarn you have, as long as all of it is of the same thickness and similar texture).
