Frosty Hat
Knit with fingering weight yarn held double on size US 7 needles, (or DK weight held single if preferred,) the Frosty Hat is perfect for those last minute gifts, travel knitting, or any time you just need some instant gratification.
Worked in the round, the folded ribbed brim and Frosty texture pattern combine to produce a fabulously warm hat that’s gloriously squishy. The garter details on the crown that look great on its own or topped with your favorite style of pom pom.
Designed to fit most average adult-sized heads 20-22”. This is a great hat pattern for an adventurous beginner or anyone looking for a fun, fast project. Skills required: provisional cast on (optional for folded brim, working in the round, knit 2 together, and purl.
Yarn: approx 60g for 2 color hat (75g for single color hat). Hypnotic Yarn Plush Sock fingering weight held double (85% SW Merino / 15% Nylon, 437 yds (400m) per 100 g skein). (would also look amazing held with a strand of lace weight mohair in a similar or contrasting color.) Colorway used in sample is Frosty.
CC: approx 15 grams contrast color (optional) in fingering weight. Yarn used in sample is Hypnotic Yarn Plush Sock Mini in the Carrot Juice colorway.
Small length of DK weight scrap yarn for provisional cast on. (optional for folded brim)
Needles and Notions:
Main Needle: US 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular needle.
Secondary Needle: long circular needle in a size or two smaller than main needle (or 1 DPN) for picking up brim stitches from waste yarn. (optional for folded brim)
Hook: size G/6 (4.25mm) for crochet chain provisional cast on.
Notions: tapestry needle, 8 stitch makers, 1 BOR marker in distinct color.
